Terms of business

The plain-English terms for working with me: what's included, how payments and changes work, who owns your website, and how to leave if you ever want to.

Who you're working with

QuanceWeb is run by Adam Quance, a sole trader based in Hessle, East Yorkshire. You can reach me at adam@quanceweb.com. I reply within one day, any day of the week. These terms apply whenever I design, build, host or look after a website for you.

Quotes and prices

Every price is worked out for your business, based mainly on its size and what the website needs to do. Before any work starts I send you a written quote by email. It sets out what's included, any one-off fee for building the site, and the monthly fee. A quote is valid for 30 days. Nothing is charged until you've agreed to it in writing, and a reply to my email is enough.

Payments

Payments are due on the 1st of each month. You can pay by card through my secure Stripe payment page or by bank transfer. Each invoice shows the amount, what it's for and its invoice number. If a payment is more than 14 days late I'll send a reminder. If it's still unpaid after 30 days, I may pause the website until it's paid, and I'll always tell you before I do.

What the monthly fee covers

Bigger jobs, such as new pages, new features or a redesign, are quoted separately so you always know the cost first.

Your part

You'll send me the information, photos and wording for your website, or tell me where to find them. Please only send photos and text you have the right to use. I'm happy to help write the words and can suggest free stock photos.

Who owns what

Your business name, logo, photos and wording always belong to you. Once the build fee is fully paid, the design and content of your website are yours too. Your domain name (your web address) should be registered in your name. If I register it for you, I'll transfer it to you whenever you ask.

If you decide to leave, I'll give you a copy of your website's files and help move your domain to wherever you like. Some fonts and photos come with their own free licences, which carry on applying.

Cancelling

There's no long contract. You can stop the monthly service at any time by emailing me with 30 days' notice. You won't be charged after the notice period ends. Anything already paid for, or work already done, isn't refunded.

If you're buying as a private individual rather than as a business, you also have 14 days from agreeing to cancel and get a full refund, unless you've asked me to start work in that time. In that case you pay only for the work done.

Your customers' information

If your website collects information from your customers, for example through a contact or booking form, I only handle it to run the website for you and never use it for anything else. My privacy policy explains how I handle information sent to me directly.

If something goes wrong

I take care with every website and fix any problem I've caused free of charge. I can't be responsible for things outside my control, such as a hosting company outage, a third-party service like a payment or email provider, or changes made by someone else. My total responsibility to you is limited to what you've paid me in the previous 12 months. Nothing in these terms limits responsibility for death or injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law doesn't allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

If I update these terms, I'll put the new version on this page and tell current clients by email at least 30 days before it applies to them. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
